You know about the benefits of driving safely. Driving with love adds another
dimension to it. Driving with love is about paying attention to details, about
being nice to the other motorists, about deeply enjoying and concentrating on
your driving experience.
Driving with love can also be, for some people, about driving gently, being
one with the road, about driving like a zenmaster, or about driving as if there
would be a full cup of coffee sitting on the floor of your vehicle.
When you drive this way, you avoid unneccessary accelerations and braking;
your driving is smooth. Instead of mashing the gas when the light turns green
and mashing the brake before the next red light, you gently adjust your speed
to cruise through an entire series of lights before touching the brakes.
It saves fuel, and it reduces emissions. A disproportionately large amount of
diesel soot emissions and gasoline engine unburned fuel and carbon monoxide emissions
comes from sudden accelerations.
Graphs on your left show how one single wild,
full-throttle acceleration can lead to 1300-times higher CO emissions, and
produce as much emissions of volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide as four
to ten miles of peaceful driving.
